Alex Saab’s passport serial, according to the journalist Goodman, does not coincide with the one written in the letter sent to Cape Verde in 2020, when the diplomatic character of the businessman in favor of Venezuela was explained. On the other hand, the movement that supports him in Venezuela assures that they have all the evidence to achieve his freedom in December.
Associated Press journalist Joshua Goodman published in his social networks on the night of Monday, October 17, an image of the passport of Colombian businessman Alex Saab, who has already served a year in prison in the United States after being deported from Cape Verde; a fact that also caused the suspension of the dialogue that was taking place in Mexico by the Executive.
According to the images presented by Goodman, Saab’s passport serial (in which his position appears as “special envoy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs”) does not match the serial placed on the document that was sent to Cape Verde in 2020 to indicate that Saab was on a diplomatic mission at the time he was arrested on the island of Sal.
This identity document has been presented in the trial that takes place in Miami to determine if the Barranquillan really had diplomatic status or not when he was arrested in mid-June 2020.

Hours before, Roi López, one of the spokesmen for the movement called “Free Alex Saab”, declared in VTV that next December 12 the hearing will be held in which the diplomatic status of the Colombian businessman will be defined.

He argued that the process against Saab “has been delayed” and assures that “there is much evidence that reinforces the character and immunity of the diplomat”, for which they affirm that they have all the evidence to achieve freedom.
Then, on Twitter, López lashes out at Goodman saying that the appointment of the Barranquillero had been in 2018 and that at the time of his arrest he had some letters that accredited him as a Venezuelan envoy.

The federal judge in the Court of the Southern District of Florida in the United States, Robert N. Scola, announced the tuesday september 13 that the trial to determine the diplomatic status of Alex Saab, who has been imprisoned in the United States since mid-October 2021 from Cape Verde, was postponed until December.
This was announced then by Joshua Goodman, who indicated that this delay in the process occurs in the midst of a controversy due to the fact that the prosecutors resist the demand of Saab’s lawyers to search the State Department and other instances for the documents that ratify his status as a special envoy of the Venezuelan Government.
