Alex Saab to Plead Not Guilty of Money Laundering in the US

The Alex Saab’s attorney, Henry Bell, spoke with the agency Reuters and affirmed that the Colombian is going to declare himself as “not guilty” of money laundering charges in USA where he was recently extradited.

Saab has its next court hearing in Florida November 1st. There is expectation about his next steps before the US justice, because it is not known if he will speak against the government of Nicolas Maduro or you will reach some kind of agreement.

Precisely on that case, other information was known from the AP agency that indicates that last year and “discreetly” the government of Venezuela offered to USA release six of its citizens who are in prison in exchange for releasing Saab.

According to this information, the offer was discussed in a meeting that took place in Mexico on September 2020 among a senior advisor of Nicolas Maduro and an advisor to the former president Donald trump.

The offer was rejected by the US government, but the Trump indicated that the point of the meeting was never to negotiate or decide on freedom of Saab.
