Alex Saab must testify before the Colombian Supreme Court for alleged links with Piedad Córdoba

The Supreme Court has in its possession emails with transactions, names of partners, documents written and reviewed directly by Córdoba, and even the crossroads of communications of the millionaire transactions with Alex Saab. The high court sent a rogatory letter to the United States Justice in which it requests that they be allowed to interview Saab in his detention center

The Investigation Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice of Colombia summoned businessman Álex Saab to provide details on the possible links and businesses that he would have with Piedad Córdoba to declare in the process that he is carrying out against Piedad Córdoba, who was arrested this week for not declare $68,000.

The middle Week assured that Piedad Córdoba did have business with Álex Saab, arrested in the United States (USA) for money laundering. The media reported that this could be verified in documents delivered by the senator’s former adviser, Andrés Vásquez, who is collaborating with the Colombian Supreme Court of Justice.

According to the media, the Supreme Court is investigating, among other things, a series of money incomes that Córdoba has not justified. The data that the high court has in the file is 6 billion pesos.

“In order to investigate the possible punishable conduct of the persons listed below, who belong to the extended family nucleus of Piedad Córdoba Ruiz, report income to justify that added up to six thousand three hundred and thirty million pesos ($6,336,356,049.00 )”, reads the Court document.

The Supreme Court has in its possession emails with transactions, names of partners, documents written and reviewed directly by Córdoba, and even the crossroads of communications of the millionaire transactions with Saab.

The high court sent a rogatory letter to the United States Justice in which it requests that they be allowed to interview Saab in his detention center so that he tells, once and for all, what his relationship with Córdoba consisted of and how far they went their businesses.

In the evidence delivered to the Court, Vásquez confirms that Córdoba had business with Saab and that “it was a portfolio recovery process with a success commission.” But he went further and said that “Piedad Córdoba and her children were informed in detail and periodically of the entire process, and of the questions that several companies had within the Álex Saab list.”

“When the Government of Venezuela approved and began the payment of Cadivi (National Commission for Foreign Exchange Administration) to businessmen supported by Piedad Córdoba, they began to pay the success commission. The first businessman was Salomón, who came through a meeting between Piedad Córdoba and Miguel Pinedo Vidal. The Piedad Córdoba list included him in the group Los Árabes”, explained Vásquez.

What Vásquez commented on while they fulfilled the payments also specified the commitments with Córdoba together with Nicolás Maduro’s right-hand man, William Amaro. Supposedly, both asked for the money in cash. In the midst of these operations, a second request would have been made: Salomón said that it was impossible to continue moving so much cash and they asked for a company to which they could transfer.

«During the years in which I worked with Piedad Córdoba in Venezuela, Álex Saab was a businessman on the verge of bankruptcy, with astronomical debts in the banks and his hopes were in the 30 million dollars that the Government of Venezuela owed him. Therefore, his ability to finance Piedad was very limited and everything was based on the expectation of Cadivi’s payment, ”says Vásquez in the document that he sent to the Court.

For now, there is no date for the statement. Without a doubt, Saab’s testimony will be key in the investigation.
