Nuevo Laredo, Tamps., The arrival of hundreds of Haitian migrants could cause a humanitarian crisis, warned the Catholic Diocese of Nuevo Laredo, which through its social networks is asking citizens for donations of food, clothing and cleaning supplies.

Until yesterday, there were more than 2,000 Haitian migrants in Nuevo Laredo, while the eight shelters were reported saturated, so hundreds sleep on public roads, and they fear that they will continue to arrive as the date on which they must appear before the immigration authorities approaches. from the United States, a country where they ask for political asylum.

The shelters that no longer have space are: The Nazareth Migrant House, Municipal Shelter, Maná del Cielo, Barrios para Cristo, El Buen Samaritano, Oradel and Flores Méndez Migrant House.

Personnel from Civil Protection and Firefighters and from the Tamaulipas Institute for Migrants assist foreigners with some of their needs.

Likewise, elements of the state police and the Mexican Army monitor the places where migrants and their families are, including bus stations and some public places, where they spend the night.

Some of the people in transit commented that they have been moving from their country for four months, passing through places like Brazil, Central America and the Mexican Republic.

Very few speak Spanish, since most have French and Haitian Creole as their native languages.

It is expected for this Monday, May 2, the arrival in Nuevo Laredo of personnel from international non-governmental organizations, including the UN International Organization for Migration.

Municipal authorities also anticipate the arrival of a greater number of Haitian migrants seeking political asylum in the United States.
