The National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology of Peru (Senamhi) warned about the occurrence of rains of moderate to strong intensity in 23 regions of the country, starting on Tuesday, January 27. The alert is considered orange.
According to Senamhi, the precipitation will affect areas of the jungle and the mountains, accompanied by electric shocksgusts of wind, hail, snowfall and sleet, which increases the flood risklandslides, huaicos and flooding of rivers and streams.
REGIONS AFFECTED IN THE JUNGLE
According to the report, the affected departments are Amazonas, Ayacucho, Cajamarca, Cusco, Huánuco, Junín, Loreto, Madre de Dios, Pasco, Puno, San Martín and Ucayali. The rains will occur from Tuesday, January 27 to Thursday, January 29.
Rainfall accumulations close to 60 mm/day are expected in the northern area, close to 70 mm/day in the center and values of around 80 mm/day in the south.
REGIONS AFFECTED IN THE MOUNTAINS
The impact is estimated at Áncash, Apurímac, Arequipa, Ayacucho, Cajamarca, Cusco, Huancavelica, Huánuco, Ica, Junín, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Lima, Moquegua, Pasco, Piura, Puno, San Martín and Tacna. Precipitation will be from Tuesday, January 27 to Wednesday, January 28.
Rainfall accumulations between 12 and 26 mm/day are expected in the northern area, between 14 and 21 mm/day in the center and values between 16 and 25 mm/day in the south. Likewise, it is expected hail in areas above 2800 m asl and snowfall in locations above 3800 m asl in the central and southern mountains.
Faced with these situations, INDECI urged local governments to review evacuation routes to direct the population to a safe area, as well as the availability of health centers.
Likewise, the population is also recommended to protect and reinforce the roof of their homes and other preventive measures.
