This decision by the oil company would generate multiple effects in the municipality of Tibúin terms of investment, allocation of royalties, loss of direct and indirect jobs and the indefinite suspension of the provision of home gas service for thousands of homes, in a large part of the department.

The representative for the Peace Seats, Diógenes Quintero, in dialogue with La FM, urged the Government to guarantee the safety of companies and their jobs, for the operation in Campo Tibú.

“Since August of last year, the Caño Limón pipeline that crosses the Catatumbo has not been pumping crude oil, the pipe has not been operating for a year, and The announcement made today by Ecopetrol is very serious, this is going to represent a very negative impactin royalties in the department, and in the municipalities of Catatumbo, this also impacts employment, which depends directly and indirectly on the region, and on a mechanism of works for taxes, due to the work that Ecopetrol and Cenit do in the region,” he said.

Quintero added that Ecopetrol is one of the companies that has invested the most in the department, and it is essential that the oil company’s operation in this area of ​​the country is maintained.

For its part, the Mayor’s Office of the municipality of Tibú, through a statement, referred to the suspension of Ecopetrol operations for reasons of public order, and warns about the serious consequences for the local economy, the gas service, and calls for action for the security and well-being of the region.
