MIAMI, United States. – The National Seismological Service of Cuba (SSNC) recorded a “seismic swarm” on April 3 and 4 in the Moa-Purial area, in the eastern region of Cuba, where there were 402 movements with magnitudes from 0.8 to 2 .9 degrees on the Richter scale.
According to the daily report issued by the National Center for Seismological Research (CENAIS), quoted by the state news agency Prensa LatinaThese imperceptible tremors were reported from 7:00 am on Monday, April 3, until 6:00 am on Tuesday, April 4.
Most of these events were located 27 kilometers south of the town of Moa, in the northeastern province of Holguín, with notable incidence in the Guantanamo municipality of Yateras, the two territories whose limits have been the main geographical scope of this behavior. .
With one earthquake each, the record points to the areas of Camagüey-Cubitas and Paso de los Vientos-Gran Inagua. In this delimitation, a considerable number of earthquakes have taken place in recent months, an occurrence that has drawn the attention of specialists and is located outside the largest seismogenic strip in Cuba, which is located on the south-eastern coast.
For its part, in the Santiago-Baconao area four telluric movements were recorded.
A little more than 20 days ago, CENAIS also registered a great seismological instability in the eastern region of the Island in the span of 24 hours.
On that occasion, the head of the CENAIS National Seismological Service, Enrique Diego Arango Arias, indicated on Facebook that from 6:00 am on March 18 to 5:59 am on Sunday the 19th, earthquakes were reported in the north of Las Tunas and in the Chivirico area, southwest of Santiago de Cuba.
An anomalous series of earthquakes were recorded in eastern Cuba from January 17 to 26, 2016, a period that kept authorities, seismologists and the population of this area of the island in suspense.
