Upon leaving the courtroom of the Barbadillo prison, the lawyer of former president Alejandró Toledo, Roberto Sureported that They will appeal the decision of the Judiciary after they sentenced 20 years and 6 months in prison for the crimes of aggravated collusion and money laundering against his sponsor. In addition, they will request house arrest for the former president due to his state of health.
“(Alejandro Toledo) will remain in Barbadillo, according to what the court has determined. But on appeal“We are going to ask that the upper court give him house arrest based on the arguments of his state of health,” said Roberto Su. “With the medical diagnoses he has, we hope that the court can take a temporary measure.”
In relation to the house arrest measure, Alejandro Toledo’s legal defense justified that it may be a possibility, since the former president has State security. “There is no possibility that Mr. Toledo can leave his house because he has protection as a former head of state. So we are going to ask for (house arrest) and hopefully it will be attended to,” he added.
