“I am willing to attend the Oversight Commission when they summon me,” the former president of Congress, Alejandro Soto, told Perú21 via WhatsApp. This, after indicating that what he will do is, as a Christian, wash his hands of said commission.
Because? Because he announced that he did not hire the former head of Parliament’s Legal Counsel, Jorge Torres Saravia, nor did he meet Andrea Vidal, the former Congress worker who died riddled with 70 shots, who are the main protagonists of the case of alleged sexual exploitation being investigated by the Public Ministry and the Congressional Oversight Commission.
“I am willing to attend all summons made by the Public Ministry and the special commissions. I have no problem. What I do have to make clear is that during my administration, which ended on July 27, 2024, there has been no problem. That six months later events such as the death of a former worker occur does not bind me. I am not the one who hired Torres Saravia,” he told this medium.
The president of the Congressional Oversight Commission, Juan Burgos, announced last Tuesday that the head of Parliament, Eduardo Salhuana, and the predecessor in this position, Alejandro Soto, will be summoned to testify about the prostitution network that was allegedly woven in this power of the State.
The appointment would be between the 8th and 9th of this month.
Salhuana will not attend if he is summoned because on that date he will be on a trip to China.
According to Soto, he has not yet received the summons from the Oversight Commission.
As recalled, Torres Saravia held the position of head of the Congressional Legal Advisory Office in September 2023, during Alejandro Soto’s administration as president.
The senior officer, Giovanni Forno, said at the Oversight Commission that he did not remember who gave him Torres Saravia’s resume, because it was he who ordered his hiring.
