For Sánchez, Delgado “is handing out responsibilities,” when the focus should be on “what are the policies to care for children, how do we solve child poverty.”
Sánchez highlighted that Orsi himself has added figures from other parties to his campaign, referring to the support of a member of the National Party, referring to the nationalist security advisor Víctor Björgan who, despite his “proudly white” identification, expressed his support for Orsi . This support, Sánchez added, is not an isolated fact, since it is being replicated throughout the country with Colorado and nationalist sympathizers who see in Orsi “the guarantees that Uruguay can advance in changes and in building a better country.”
Regarding Delgado’s comments about Orsi’s alleged lack of experience in the construction of agreements in the Municipality of Canelones, Sánchez responded that “precisely, what happens is that Delgado does not understand what it means to agree.” According to Sánchez, “agreeing involves thinking about how I incorporate those who think differently than me and build a bridge to build a policy together.” In that sense, he highlighted that, despite having majorities in the Canelones Departmental Board, Orsi promoted consensus with mayors and local actors, and would maintain this position in the national government to address key issues such as work, retirements, security and education.
Finally, Sánchez pointed out that the objective of this phase of the campaign is to evaluate “which formula is best suited to govern.”
