The Colombian comedian Alejandro Riaño He surprised his followers when announcing the adoption of Barbas, a dog rescued in the municipality of Buenaventura (Valle del Cauca) that was used cruelly to hunt sharks. The animal had been a victim of abuse when they were tied and thrown into the sea as a bait, a practice denounced by environmentalists and that ignited indignation in social networks.

After being rescued, he received veterinary attention and basic care while defining his future. The actor and creator of “Juanpis González” shared images with his new pet, highlighting the importance of denouncing animal abuse and promoting adoption. “Today we got a new member of the family,” Barbas “arrived, a dog that the @Refugiohuellasdeamor Foundation rescued from being used as a bailment for sharks, beards did not go to the only one they rescued. If they want to give a life with a lot of love they go to the foundation that there are many more dogs in search of a good home,” Riaño said on social networks.
The history of Barbas has generated a broad solidarity movement. For many, this case reflects not only violence against animals in Buenaventura, but also the lack of control against illegal fishing practices.
The environmental authorities recalled that the use of animals as a bait is a crime and announced that they will reinforce operations to prevent illegal shark hunting in the Pacific region. Similarly, they invited citizens to denounce any fact of animal abuse before the competent entities.
