The former minister’s daughter affirms that her claim is not political and demands transparency in the judicial process being followed against her father.
MDRID, Spain.- Laura María Gil González, daughter of the former Minister of Economy and Planning Alejandro Gil Fernández, once again spoke publicly about the judicial process being followed against her father in Cuba and reiterated that the trial must be public, with access to citizens and the press. His statement comes after the most recent broadcast of the official program With Edge, space dedicated to discrediting critical voices and that on this occasion addressed the case.
In his message, published on Facebook, Gil González pointed out that the broadcast recognized, although indirectly, the need not to issue criteria without evidence in a criminal process. However, she reported that since then she has received personal attacks and disqualifications, including being called a “traitor,” something she described as an attempt to punish her for defending her father.
The young woman recalled that since her first statement she has requested that the process be transparent and subject to due process, clarifying that her claim does not seek political benefits or support from external campaigns, but rather that there be impartiality. He stated that his demand for a public trial is based on the official discourse on transparency: if the information linked to the case were a state secret, he said, “it wouldn’t even have to be mentioned.”
Gil Fernández was dismissed in February 2024 and recently presented by the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic as involved in a case that includes economic crimes and alleged events related to State security. The case is filed in the Chamber of Crimes against State Security of the Supreme People’s Court. To date, authorities have not offered clear details about the evidence, the scope of the accusation or the trial date.
The family maintains that the former minister will not accept charges that are not proven. Her daughter insists that demanding accountability and procedural guarantees is the right of any citizen, and she rejected the use of these claims to attack her or to try to link her to outside political agendas.
