Alejandro Gil visits Venezuela to assess the "strategic cooperation" with Cuba

(EFE).- The Deputy Prime Minister of Cuba and head of the Island’s Economy and Planning portfolio, Alejandro Gil Fernández, arrived in Venezuela on Wednesday, where he reviewed the bilateral cooperation agenda in a meeting he held with the Executive Vice President of the South American country, Delcy Rodríguez.

The official visits the nation to “deepen bilateral cooperation and examine the progress and perspectives of the comprehensive agreement (…) signed more than two decades ago between the two countries,” reported the state-owned channel Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), which broadcast images of the meeting between Fernández and the vice president.
The outlet recalled that the alliance between the two countries covers the areas of energy, health, sports, education, communication, food and science.

The meeting with Rodríguez was also attended by the Cuban ambassador to Venezuela, Dagoberto Rodríguez, who previously held a meeting with the foreign minister, Carlos Faría, in which they reiterated their willingness to “continue developing strategic cooperation together in favor of well-being and development “of both peoples, according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The Venezuelan vice president, who visited the island territory in January, March and July 2021, went to Cuba again last April to review agreements between the two governments.

Venezuela and Cuba have maintained a broad cooperation agreement since 2001 whereby Havana receives crude oil at preferential prices in exchange for sending professional services, mainly doctors and teachers, to Venezuela.

On August 15, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel highlighted Venezuela’s support in the serious industrial fire in Matanzas (west), and conveyed “the gratitude and affection of Cubans.”
