The congressman Alejandro Caveroa member of the Avanza País bench, spoke out after having been involved in a tense incident that occurred at the Lima Art Museum (MALI).
According to Cavero’s own statements, the altercation began when a person began to record him without his consent, accompanying his action with insults.
According to the congressman, he tried to ignore the situation, but when the harassment did not stop, he chose to take the aggressor’s cell phone and hand it to a security guard. This action, according to his version, caused the woman to react violently, hitting him in the face, breaking his glasses and throwing a glass at him.
“In the context of a party, a person with a very aggressive attitude invaded my privacy, began to insult me and record me without permission. I tried to ignore him, but in the face of his constant harassment I only managed to take his cell phone to hand it to a security guard, which made her move on to physical aggression. She hit me in the face, breaking my glasses, and threw a glass at me. Her aggression also caused my polo to break, as seen in the images,” he wrote in X.
Likewise, the congressman condemned the attack and described it as an act of intolerance and violence that should not be repeated. “In a democracy we can disagree. “I have always been open to constructive criticism of my work, but these types of actions are far from being an acceptable form of expression,” he said.
Finally, he called for civility among Peruvians, emphasizing that “violence is never the appropriate solution to resolve political differences.”
