Alejandrina Salcedo is the new Chief Economist of Banxico

“Many congratulations to Alejandrina Salcedo for her appointment as General Director of Economic Research of Banxico by its Governing Board. She won the contest for her ability, career and experience as an economist, not because of gender. Congratulations,” she wrote in her Deputy Governor Jonatha Heath’s Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Banxico, Salcedo Cisneros was in charge of Price Analysis, Regional Economy and Information.

In September 2021, Banxico reported that Daniel Chiquiar was leaving his position due to health problems after six years as Chief Economist.

“By medical recommendation, it will leave the responsibility in the Bank of Mexico,” the central bank told Expansion. Chiquiar was also responsible for directing Banxico’s economic research department.

“Much of the research that it prepares and supervises serves as the basis for advising the Governing Board and, later, is published through various media, including national and international academic journals,” the entity detailed.

Who is Alejandrina Salcedo Cisneros?

The new Chief Economist of Banxico has a degree in Economics from the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico (ITAM) and has master’s and doctorate studies from Stanford University.

She has worked at Banxico since 2000 in the general direction of Economic Research and also collaborated as a consultant at the World Bank (WB).
