Alejandra, daughter of Miguel Mendoza: "This Christmas I don't ask you for toys, I just beg you to bring it back to me soon"

Alejandra Mendoza Pozo, the daughter of sports journalist Miguel Mendoza, continues her demand for the release of the political prisoner of the Ortega-Murillo dictatorship, after more than 550 days of separation. Her relatives affirm that her minor “has not stopped praying for a single day” for the release of her father.

“I know that you have heard my prayers in these 18 months and I thank you for loving me. This Christmas I do not ask you for toys, I only beg you to take care, give health, life and strength to my dad Miguel Mendoza. May you bring him back to me soon, because I need him with me. I’ve been a good girl, I don’t deserve to suffer so much. I want to be happy. Let it be your will! Amen,” the eight-year-old girl said in a letter written for the festivities.

Mendoza’s relatives report that Alejandra “is an 8-year-old girl who has suffered, physically and emotionally, because of this forced separation. She has not stopped praying for a single day. God will fulfill her desire ».

After 18 months of total isolation between father and daughter, on December 7, political prisoner Miguel Mendoza was able to receive a visit from his little daughter in the cells of the Directorate of Judicial Assistance (DAJ), El Chipote, who accompanied him for a few hours in which his mother, Margin Pozo, affirms that she was excited to be able to hug the sports writer again.

Pozo recounted that half an hour before the farewell, little Alejandra burst into tears because she said that she did not want to be separated from her father, whom she had not looked at or hugged for more than 500 days. She refused to leave her “love of her life” in those cells.

“She cried a lot because her father was staying, she hugged him, she cried when they took Miguel away, we stayed in the room waiting for them to tell us that we had to leave, she continued crying when she got on the minibus in which they transferred us to reception, then in the car until we got home, she cried uncontrollably and told me that she wanted to stay with her father there in El Chipote,” Pozo said in an interview with Article 66.

The journalist and critic of the Ortega y Murillo regime was jailed in June 2021, in the midst of a hunt for union leaders in the framework of the general elections where Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo were re-elected to power.

Mendoza was convicted of the crimes of conspiracy to undermine national integrity and propagation of false news, through repressive laws directed against opponents. The Ortega y Murillo court sentenced him to nine years in prison.
