Aledmys Díaz receives his World Series championship ring

He utility Cuban Aledmys Díaz received this Friday in Houston the ring that credits him as the 2022 World Series champion. The man from Villa Clara returned to the Astros for the first time since signing with Oakland last winter, and the management of the current monarchs of MLB did not miss the opportunity to present him with the award in front of the fans.

It was an “incredible” day for Aledmys, who reunited with his former teammates and Astros fans at Minute Maid Park, where mentor Dusty Baker, right on the home plateHe handed him the ring after greeting him effusively.

“I spent four years of my career here, played in three World Series, and finally winning last year is something that I will always have in my heart, in my mind.” said Díaz, who lived a special moment.

“It feels like home. It’s hard to be on the other side’s bench, but it’s part of the game. I enjoyed my four years here. I learned a lot. Great teammates who became friends and family”, added the Caribbean baseball player.

Aledmys signed with the Astros in 2019 after stints with the Cardinals and Blue Jays. With Houston he remained four seasonsin which he played 262 games and added almost 1,000 plate appearances, with 32 home runs, 82 extra-base hits, 129 RBIs and 107 runs scored.

The man from Villa Clara was with the Astros in the 2019 and 2021 World Series, in which they lost against Washington and Atlanta, respectively. But last year he managed to get even in a big way with the victory against Philadelphia in a high-calibre duel.

Díaz was an important player for Houston, who took advantage of his skills to cover all positions in the infield and left field. Due to his seriousness and professional ethics, he earned the respect of his teammates and the fans of the Astros.

“That group knows how much we fought for that ring. It is something that I am going to appreciate and will have throughout my life,” said the Cuban, who despite not having a good start in 2023 managed to connect a couple of unstoppables to his former team this Friday night.
