Senate Presidents David Alcolumbre; of the House of Representatives, Hugo Motta; and the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Luís Roberto Barroso, should accompany the President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to Italy to participate in Pope Francis’ wake. The Planalto Palace said the three were invited and indicated that they would accept.
The trip is scheduled for Thursday (24). The presidency advisory did not say whether other authorities were invited. The first lady Janja Lula da Silva will also go to the funeral.
The coffin with Pope Francis’ body will be transferred From the chapel of the house of Santa Marta to the Basilica of St. Peter this Wednesday (23).
Francisco’s funeral was scheduled for next Saturday (26), from 10am (local time), in St. Peter’s own Basilica. From there, the coffin will be taken to the Basilica of Santa Maria Maior, where it will be buried, as requested by the Pontiff.
