The vice-president of the Republic, Geraldo Alckmin, said in Baku, Azerbaijan, where he is participating in the 29th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP29), that the explosions in Praça dos Três Poderes, in Brasília, which occurred on the night of this Wednesday- fair (13), are serious and must be investigated with extreme rigor.
“Sad and serious. Sad for the loss of life and serious because it is an attack on an institution of the Republic, on a power of the Republic, which must be investigated extremely quickly and extremely rigorously. And that’s what I believe the security agencies will do,” he said.
For Alckmin, the explosions were an isolated manifestation and do not represent a threat of new attacks like those that occurred on January 8, 2023. “Work is ongoing to reduce this violence, these absurd acts. that compromise peace, democracy, compromise security. But we have solid institutions and the investigation will be rigorous”, he reinforced.
The vice-president also does not believe that the Brasília case could pose any threat to the G20, which will begin in Rio de Janeiro, with the G20 Social program, this Friday (15). “I don’t see any problem, everything is going very well for Rio de Janeiro”, he concluded.
Two consecutive explosions occurred early yesterday evening, in Praça dos Três Poderes, close to the Federal Supreme Court, which was subsequently evacuated. The Federal District Military Fire Department confirmed the death of one person.
The car found at the scene of the explosion was identified and belongs to Francisco Wanderley Luizknown as Tiu França, from Rio do Sul (SC). The identity of the body found near the explosion site has not yet been confirmed, but the family recognized the car from television images.
