The Vice President of the Republic and Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Geraldo Alckmin, defended trade between countries and stressed the multilateralism of Brazil, In the context of the new tariff policy imposed by US President Donald Trump. The statement took place at the opening of the 16th International Fair of Auto Parts, Equipment and Services (Automec), this Tuesday (22), in São Paulo.
“Foreign policy needs to be won, foreign trade is win-win. I am more efficient in an area, seeing for you. You are more efficient in an industry, sell to me. It gets the whole of society, you encourage competitiveness. Foreign trade is employment, it is development, it is opportunity. Instead of closing economies, Brazil defends multilateralism and free market,” Alckmin told the journalists.
The vice president also said that Brazil has no dispute with anyone and that, with the United States, the country has “200 years of friendship and partnership”. “The United States has no commercial deficit with Brazil, it has commercial surplus. And we have to get along with everyone. China is the largest buyer in Brazil, is the largest commercial partner, and the United States is the largest investor in Brazil, so we should take advantage of, on the one hand, that opens and, on the other hand, promoting the dialogue,” he said when questioned by Journalists on China.
The opening of the event, in São Paulo Expo, was attended by entrepreneurs from the auto parts industry. At the fair, which takes place between April 22 and 26, will be more than 1500 brands from the vehicle auto parts, equipment and services. Regarding industry, Alckmin highlighted three public policies that he considers important to the sector.
