Rádio Nacional honors the talent and artistic trajectory of singer and songwriter Alcione in the special program on Sunday (16), at 10pm. Owner of a powerful and unmistakable voice, the diva turns 78 on November 21st and continues to exude energy in more than five decades of her career.
Scripted and produced by Cezar Faccioli and production coordinated by Cynthia Cruz, the public broadcaster’s program reveals curious episodes in the artist’s life and highlights hits from her repertoire. The production also broadcasts excerpts from the special edition of Sem Censura in honor of Alcione, shown on TV Brasil in August last year.
Among the remarkable facts in the life of the Maranhão singer remembered during the attraction is the influence of her father, master of the São Luís PM band. He demanded that his nine children, men and women, learn to play an instrument.
Alcione’s audios also highlight the beginning of her career, with her arrival in Rio de Janeiro and the performer’s debut in bars in the city. At the time, the singer’s constant presence in Rio’s main nightclubs caught the attention of producers.
The program recalls Alcione’s partnerships with big names in Brazilian music, such as Roberto Menescal, Jair Rodrigues, Emílio Santiago, Nei Lopes and Cartola. More recently, in addition to artists from party alto, pagode and samba de quadra, he performed duets with MV Bill and Gloria Groove. These partnerships show that versatility is also a hallmark of the singer, known for interpreting different musical genres and even songs in other languages.
Sunday’s special airs eternal hits in Alcione’s voice:
- Why Chorar (Baden Powell / Vinicius de Moraes);
- Guinea Fig (Reginaldo Bessa / Nei Lopes);

- Don’t Let Samba Die (Edson Conceição / Aluísio);
