Alberto Otárola: they present a motion for interpellation against the Prime Minister for repression of demonstrations

Leftist benches require that the head of the PCM answer for the repression against demonstrations and other authoritarian actions of the Boluarte government.

The spokesman forand Together for Peru, Edgar Reymundo, with the support of other left-wing benches, presented a motion for interpellation against the president of the Council of Ministers, Alberto Otárola, for the “serious violations of human rights and the authoritarian actions that it has been implementing” the management of the president Dina Boluarte since he took office following the vacancy of Pedro Castillo.

“Since December 7, 2022, as a result of the assumption of Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra to the presidency of the Republic, acts of protest were reported in various cities of the country, acts that have been violently repressed by the Armed Forces. Armed Forces and National Police of Peru”, they claim in the motion.

In the document, the parliamentarians maintain that Otárola Peñaranda, as head of the PCM, “has made public statements that seek to stigmatize the mobilized population and justify the criminal military and police repression.” These latest acts, they recall, have caused the death of more than 60 civilians and “the exacerbation of the conflict in the country.”

It is also stated that national and international organizations, such as the OAS and the European Union, have expressed their concern about “the disproportionate use of law enforcement against the protesters.”

“The facts described show that the country is moving towards levels of greater confrontation and that the policy of repression against the mobilized population promoted by the Prime Minister and the null political will for dialogue on the part of the Government make the permanence of Mrs. Boluarte unsustainable. in the presidency of the Republic and of Mr. Otárola in the premierate”, the document reads.
