President Alberto Fernandez assured that “uniting Argentines and Brazilians is always beneficial”, within the framework of the tribute that the Argentine embassy in Brasilia paid to former president José Sarney for the Argentine-Brazilian Friendship Day which is celebrated this Wednesday.
Through a video broadcast from Casa Rosada, Fernández recalled that Brazil “is the main commercial partner of Argentina”, and noted: “We work every day so that this union is growing for mutual benefit, with the conviction that not only it is possible but it is absolutely necessary. “
“Know that we are proud that this is the case, because we always believed in the need to deepen the political and economic interaction with our brothers throughout Latin America. Our peoples feel like brothers and that is why we promote a solidarity regionalism in legal, economic and also social matters, because we know how to face difficulties together, and it becomes much easier, “he said.
After congratulating the ambassador Daniel scioli and the entire representative team in Brasilia for this initiative, the President considered: “Our countries have a rich and enormous past that nurtures and consolidates our friendship, but they have an even greater future, for which we must work.”
“Each of these occasions allows us to renew our mutual commitments,” he said, adding: “For Argentina, Brazil is much more than a friendly country, it is our present, it is our future that is intertwined with that of the Brazilians“.
“Brazilians and Argentines have each other in the good times and we have each other in the bad, we have built together a true milestone for Latin America, which is Mercosur. Today we are a zone of peace, which dialogues and cooperates, in order to build together a developing path “Alberto Fernandez
Fernández renewed his greeting and recognition “to Mr. President José Sarney, expressed in the most deserved awarding of the René Favaloro medal” that he received last Wednesday at the Argentine embassy in Brazil.
He outlined that “President Sarney, along with President Raúl Alfonsín, were the true architects of a historical understanding between the two countries at a time when democracy was returning to public life in the two nations” and stated that “that understanding made it possible to leave behind decades of mistrust. “
“That understanding was later embodied in the creation of the Mercosur. My gratitude, my appreciation to both of them for the legacy they left us, “completed the president.
“Brazilians and Argentines have each other in the good times and we have each other in the bad, we have built together a true milestone for Latin America, which is Mercosur. Today we are a zone of peace, which dialogues and cooperates, in order to build together a path in development, “said Fernández.
“We have outstanding debts with our peoples and that is why we must redouble our efforts, work together, side by side, to build the responses that our people need and deserve. Once again, my most affectionate greetings to our brother go to the people of Brazil. Let us renew and strengthen our friendship “, concluded the Head of State
The Argentine-Brazilian Friendship Day is celebrated every November 30, in commemoration of the meeting held that day in 1985 between Alfonsín and Sarney in the Brazilian city of Foz de Iguazú, where the Declaration of Iguazú was signed, which gave rise to the regional integration process that led to the creation of Mercosur, on March 26, 1991 in Asunción, Paraguay.
