President Alberto Fernández met with the president of China, Xi Jinpingduring a tour that aimed to obtain financing to help meet the obligations acquired with the IMF (International Monetary Fund).
Fernandez expressed his gratitude to Xi Jinping for the help given to the country at this time. “I welcome the strong Chinese support in Argentina’s efforts to preserve economic and financial stability,” the president told his Chinese counterpart.
According to the Government, Xi Jinping decided to encourage the use of national currencies in commercial exchange and also supported Argentina’s request for the IMF to review its surcharge policy. “These are crucial advances,” said Alberto Fernández on his Twitter account.

Alberto Fernández said that the agreement with Xi Jinping is an opportunity to promote foreign direct investment and expand the participation of Argentine suppliers in infrastructure works, in addition to accelerate negotiations on health, phytosanitary and licensing issues to stimulate exports.
Fernández has already left China to fly to Spain, from where he will depart for Bridgetown, Barbados, to preside over a meeting of CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States), led by Argentina since January 7.
