ALBA-TCP rejects illegitimate US claim to expropriate Citgo

Through a statement, the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) rejects the illegitimate and illegal action of the Government of the United States, USA, which intends to expropriate the Venezuelan company Citgo Petroleum Corporation, under the “illegitimate General License 42 issued by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the Department of the Treasury (OFAC), on May 1, 2023,” the document reads.

The text, released this Thursday on the Alliance’s Twitter account, warns about this new aggression against Venezuela, reaffirms its rejection of the imposition of unilateral coercive measures against the Venezuelan people, and reiterates its call to the international community to demand their lifting .

Likewise, ALBA-TCP expresses its support for the legal measures that the country takes to defend its assets.

The Member States of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) denounce the immoral and illegal action of the US administration that intends to expropriate the Venezuelan company CITGO Petroleum Corporation, under the illegitimate General License 42 issued by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the Department of the Treasury (OFAC), on May 1, 2023.

This new aggression against the people and the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela is a consequence of the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States government that threaten the sovereignty of that country, violating the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter. The Alliance rejects the unilateral coercive measures against the people and the Government of Venezuela and reiterates the call to the International Community to demand their immediate lifting; likewise, ALBA-TCP expresses its support for all legal measures undertaken by the Venezuelan Government to secure its assets.
