The XX ALBA-TCP Summit begins today in this capital, which receives presidents and becomes the epicenter of integration and solidarity; also of rejection of the interference of the United States.
It is about the meeting of Heads of State and Government of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) and the Peoples’ Trade Treaty (TCP), which was and continues to be a counterpart to neoliberalism in the region.
The bloc celebrates 17 years in spite of campaigns to delegitimize it and even coups d’état or attempts to disband it.
Here you have on the agenda, among other topics, the analysis of the confrontation with the Covid-19 pandemic, the interference of the United States and the Alliance’s action program for the coming year.
Its objective is to defend the postulates of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, approved in this city in accordance with the II Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac).
They result in common goals and principles shared by the governments and peoples of Cuba, Venezuela, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Dominica, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Also from Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia and Granada.
As a closer background, the XIX Summit of the bloc took place in June in Venezuela, on the occasion of commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Carabobo.
ALBA-TCP reaffirmed in this period the rejection of the blockade against Cuba and the aggressions against Venezuela, Nicaragua, as well as the destabilizing attempts against the Bolivian government.
The Alliance underlined the defense of solidarity and cooperation mechanisms in opposition to the selfish policies that the current and unjust international economic order advocates. In this regard, it endorsed integration with the Caribbean.
