The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) expressed its categorical rejection of the announcement by US President Donald Trump about the “total closure” of Venezuelan airspace. The regional bloc described the measure as hostile, illegal and disproportionate, as well as incompatible with international law.
In its statement, the organization was emphatic in pointing out that “the threat against Venezuela constitutes a threat against all sovereign States in the region. Trying to militarily intimidate a brother country is trying to intimidate all of Latin America and the Caribbean. And in the face of them, nations will not retreat or allow the reinstallation of imperial tutelage over our continent.”
ALBA warned that this decision is part of a geopolitical design aimed at undermining the self-determination of peoples through military, diplomatic and economic pressures.
The statement also emphasizes that imposing orders over Venezuelan airspace represents an “arrogant provocation against the entire region” and reaffirms that Latin America and the Caribbean will not accept external tutelage or attempts at domination.
