ALBA rejects US order against countries that trade with Cuba

ALBA-TCP rejects interventionist OAS resolution on Venezuela

The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) categorically rejected the recent executive order of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, which seeks to impose a total blockade on fuel supplies to the Republic of Cuba under the threat of applying arbitrary tariffs against countries that maintain legitimate commercial relations with the island. This measure is considered a violation of international free trade standards, as well as the sovereign prerogatives of each State.

This statement was made by the Alliance through a statement published on its social networks, where it states that the action “is part of the historical policy of economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba” and that “it seeks to subject an entire people to extreme living conditions.”

The members of ALBA maintain that, “far from subduing the Cuban people, these actions, which have been condemned by the international community repeatedly and almost unanimously, have demonstrated the capacity for resistance, dignity and firmness of a nation that defends its independence and its right to build its own political, economic and social project, without external interference, threats or aggression.”

Commitment to International Law and the United Nations Charter

The statement states that: “The member countries of ALBA express their solidarity and support to the Government and people of Cuba, and reiterate their firm commitment to International Law and the Charter of the United Nations, as well as to the defense of multilateralism, fair trade and unrestricted respect for the sovereignty of peoples.”

Finally, the Alliance ratifies that solidarity, cooperation and unity of peoples will continue to be stronger than any unilateral coercive measure.

ALBA CATEGORICALLY REJECTS THE RECENT EXECUTIVE ORDER OF THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT AGAINST CUBA

The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) categorically rejects the recent executive order of the President of the United States that seeks to impose a total blockade on fuel supplies to the Republic of Cuba, under the threat of applying arbitrary tariffs against countries that maintain legitimate commercial relations with Cuba, in violation of international free trade standards; as well as the sovereign prerogatives of each State.

This action, which is part of the historical policy of economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba, seeks to subject an entire people to extreme living conditions. Far from breaking down the Cuban people, these actions, which have been condemned by the international community, repeatedly and almost unanimously, have demonstrated the capacity for resistance, dignity and firmness of a nation that defends its independence and its right to build its own political, economic and social project, without external interference, threats or aggression.

The member countries of ALBA express their solidarity and support to the Government and people of Cuba, and reiterate their firm commitment to International Law and the United Nations Charter, as well as to the defense of multilateralism, fair trade and unrestricted respect for the sovereignty of peoples.

ALBA ratifies that solidarity, cooperation and unity of peoples will continue to be stronger than any unilateral coercive measure.
