Los Patos, Barahona. – Moments of tension and alarm were lived this Good Friday in the busy spa of the ducks, when a booth, owned by the former mayor of the municipal district, Julissa Pérez, was consumed by a sudden fire.
The incident occurred while the spa was crowded with visitors who enjoyed the holiday of Holy Week, generating an atmosphere of chaos and a “run, run” widespread among those present.
Panic intensified in fear that one of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) tanks installed in the booth could explode, which would have unleashed a tragedy of great proportions. The rapid propagation of the flames forced bathers and merchants to abandon the area hurriedly in search of security.
So far, the causes that originated the fire are unknown. The competent authorities are expected to initiate the corresponding investigations to clarify what happened.
Although injured people were not reported, the incident highlighted the vulnerability of the spa facilities and the urgent need to apply strictest security measures in high concurrence spaces, especially during festive dates such as Holy Week.
