Defense Minister José Múcio said this Thursday (9) that the landing strip located in the Surucucu region, in Roraima, should be ready in 15 days. The runway will allow access to larger aircraft, which will expand services to the Yanomami community.
“The Surucucu track should be ready in the next two weeks and with that it will be easier not only to take the Indians who are fine, but also to take those who are in need of assistance to Boa Vista. little and from there transfer to the villages”, said the minister, in an interview with Agência Brasil.
According to the minister, among the federal government’s challenges is the elaboration of measures with other entities of the Federation to prevent illegal mining activities from happening again after the operation.
“Operations like these have been carried out several times and have not been followed up. I think this task is more difficult, because it has to involve the state government, politicians and society to see what will be done with it. [Primeiro precisa] remove all illegal mining so that this does not happen again”
According to the FAB, 4,090 basic food baskets and more than 78 tons of food and medicine have already been transported. In addition, with the setting up of the Campaign Hospital, it has already seen over a thousand consultations in the specialties of internal medicine, pediatrics, pathology, orthopedics, gynecology, dentistry, general surgery and cardiology. In all, 33 health professionals work at the hospital.

According to the Minister of Communications, Juscelino Filho, 17 mobile antennas installed broadband connection via satellite in the Yanomami Indigenous Territory, in Roraima. This equipment will be used to support medical care for the population in the Yanomami Territory.
“Our action was to connect an internet point at the Sururucu base pole, which is already in operation. We did all the tests there and [essa estrutura] will provide full support to the Air Force and the humanitarian and health teams that are supporting that Yanomami population. This action will extend to all the base centers of the Yanomami Territory, there are 37 units that we will be taking communication structure”, explained the minister.
According to Juscelino Filho, studies will be carried out to assess the possibility of extending the measure to other indigenous communities in the Amazon region.
