The Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD) reiterated this Thursday his commitment with the sustainability environmental and with the effective implementation of the Law 225-20 on Comprehensive Management and Co-processing of Solid Waste during the panel “Challenges of Extended Producer Responsibility (REP) for the industrial sector“.
The event was developed within the framework of the III International Forum of Circular Economy, organized by Deuman to debate trends, exchange innovations and promote good practices in circular economy.
The panel was moderated by Mario Pujolsexecutive vice president of the AIRDwho highlighted that the industrial sector has shown signs of being a reliable ally in promoting circular economy in the country, highlighting the efforts to create integrated waste management systems,
In addition to the promotion, together with NUVI, of training programs continuous that include workshops and webinars on the Law 225-20to prepare companies in the transition towards more sustainable production models.
Pujols stressed that one of the main challenges to achieve the correct application of the REP in the country is the educationstating that “to bring about a change in the waste management culture in the country, joint and sustained actions are required between all actors: the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Mimarena), the municipalities, the schools, the Sustainable DO Trust and, of course, the citizens”.

Regarding the regulatory framework, he pointed out that the General Regulations for the Application of the REP It is in its final phase of review by the Mimarenaafter an extensive public consultation process and whose approval is expected in the coming weeks.
Environmental management systems
- In his closing message, Mario Pujols reiterated that the national industry will continue to strengthen its participation in the systems of environmental management“forming new integrated management systems and consolidating a shared vision of a country where economic development and sustainability walk hand in hand.”
