The Association of Air Traffic Controllers of Uruguay (Actau) decided to stop the union conflict measures until December 22after a meeting held with authorities from the Ministry of National Defense and the National Directorate of Civil Aviation and Aeronautical Infrastructure (Dinacia) at the National Labor Directorate (Dinatra).
“Considering the historical vocation of our Association to bet on dialogue for the resolution of disputes and according to what was requested, We have resolved to suspend the start of the union measures reported on the 11th of this past, until Thursday, December 22 awaiting the progress that can be obtained in said negotiation instance, and the consolidation of this area,” the union said in a statement published on its website.
The Actau had decided prevent flights from taking off on different days and times from December 19 to 31 in the different airports of the country. As indicated by the union in a statement published this Sunday, the measure had been taken due to “significant salary inequities between officials” who perform the same tasks Already “the precarious working conditions in the towers and control center”in a conflict that dates back to 2019.
The trigger for the resolution was that “the authorities of the Ministry of National Defense and the Dinacia” did not show up to “the last Dinatra calls for collective bargaining”, so from the union they were “forced” to make the decision.
The union’s president, Mario Librán, told The Observer that “three or four meetings” ago agreed by the Dinatra that the Defense authorities and the Dinacia “they reschedule, or say they can’t meet the schedules” of the meetings to negotiate. Furthermore, he criticized “For months, even years, they have been in charge of interlocutors who have no decision-making power.”
After partially resolving the conflict, the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Pablo Mieres, said that they will meet again on Thursday to definitively resolve the conflict and decided to convey “tranquility” on an issue that was causing him “concern” about air connectivity. .
