The incident, which was captured on video by some neighbors, shows the moment in which the technician tries to take shelter while being attacked by two men, one of whom was carrying a machete. Despite the worker’s attempt to escape, the attackers continued chasing him until other citizens intervened to stop the beating. Minutes later, units from the Barranquilla Metropolitan Police arrived at the scene and handled the situation.
The operational commander of the Police, Colonel John Fredy Sepúlveda, rejected this type of act: “Any type of aggression against workers who do their duty cannot be tolerated. We will continue to act firmly in the face of these events.”
For its part, Air-e issued a statement strongly rejecting the attack and reiterated its call for respect towards technicians and operators who carry out service or suspension tasks. The company recalled that the cutting actions follow regulated procedures and that no disagreement justifies violence. “A worker who does his duty… deserves respect”the company reported.
We categorically reject the attack against one of our collaborators in Barranquilla; no act of violence is acceptable. A worker who does his duty, like millions of Colombians, deserves respect and has a family waiting for him at home.

The community in the sector was outraged by what happened and asked for a greater presence of the authorities during the work to suspend the service, as they assure that this type of incident has become frequent in different neighborhoods of the city. Some witnesses indicated that the attackers had acted out of anger after learning that the supply would be cut off due to non-payment for several months.
The detainee remains in custody while the Prosecutor’s Office defines whether he will be presented before a guarantee control judge to legalize his capture. Meanwhile, the Air-e worker is recovering from the injuries suffered and the company announced that it will file a formal complaint so that the case does not go unpunished. The violent episode reopens the debate about the safety of technicians who carry out their work in residential areas.
