The accident occurred shortly after takeoff in the community of Bocoa, when a Nativ Air company aircraft lost contact with the control tower.

A serious tragedy mourns this Monday the National Registry of Civil Status and the department of Vaupés. A Cessna C-206 light aircraft, registration HK-641, operated by the Nativ Air company, crashed after taking off from the Bocoa Querarí runway bound for Mitú. Four people were traveling on the aircraft, including three officials of the entity, who lost their lives.
According to the Civil Aeronautics of Colombia, contact with the aircraft was lost approximately two minutes after takeoff.
The Search and Rescue (SAR) protocols were immediately activated, coordinated by the Orinoquía Regional Rescue Center (RSC VVC). However, when located, the aircraft was found completely incinerated and no survivors were found.
The deceased officials were identified as Gabriel Gómez Sánchez, José Misael Silva Bernal and Nadia Valentina Valencia Yepes, who worked in the Departmental Delegation of Vaupés.
According to the official statement from the Registry, they returned to Mitú after completing a day of registering citizens at voting stations located in remote areas of the department.
“After completing their work during the first day of citizen registration, our officials began the return to Mitú and, unfortunately, the aircraft in which they were traveling suffered an accident.“, the entity expressed in a statement, highlighting its dedication and commitment to the electoral service in the most remote territories of the country.
The accident occurred in the community of Bocoa, belonging to the district of Papunaua, a jungle area that is difficult to access. The meteorological conditions and the complex terrain of the Amazon region could be factors that are evaluated within the investigation to determine the causes of the incident.
The Aerocivil indicated that, together with the military authorities, the Police and disaster prevention and assistance agencies, they are securing the scene to advance with the recovery and investigation work. The entity also asked for caution and respect when sharing information, in order to protect the dignity of the victims’ families.
The National Registrar, Hernán Penagos, expressed his deep regret for the loss of the three servants and extended his condolences to their families and colleagues:
“We express our solidarity with the families of our officials, who died fulfilling their duty to bring democracy closer to all corners of the country. Your commitment and dedication will always be remembered.“, they specified.
