AIQ air operations progress at a slow pace

Queretaro, Qro. The Querétaro International Airport (AIQ) accumulated 45,376 air operations from January to November 2022, a figure that is still 10% below the same period of 2019, before the pandemic (50,421), reported the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT).

The operations accumulated in the year just concluded represent an increase of 4.4% in relation to the 43,453 of January-November 2021, as well as an increase of 30.8% in relation to the same period of 2020, the first year affected by the health contingency of the Covid-19 and that represented a brake on the growth of the AIQ.

During the first 11 months of 2022 the monthly average was around 4,125.1 air operations at the airport, while in the same period of 2021 the monthly average was 3,950.3, in 2020 it was 3,153.8 and the average per month from January to November 2019 of 4,583.7 operations.

Domestic operations are the driving force behind AIQ’s activity, since in the first 11 months of the year they amounted to 34,126 national operations, 75.2% of the total. On the contrary, the international ones added 11,250, 24.8% of the total

The fact that the airport has not yet resumed pre-pandemic air activity is related to the fact that it also maintains a lag in the flow of passengers; The movement of cargo is the market that did resume and even exceed pre-pandemic levels.

In January-November 2022, the cargo terminal mobilized 66,153.6 tons of merchandise, a figure that experienced an annual growth of 13.8%; in addition to exceeding the movement of January-November 2019 by 40.3% (47,149.5 tons).

With the cargo transported until November 2022, the airfield broke a new record, exceeding the tonnage of all of 2018 (53,289.5), the best pre-pandemic year, in addition to surpassing the result of 2021 (64,888 tons).

Regarding the reception of passengers, from January to November 2022 there were 1 million 026,623 travelers transferred in the AIQ, although it represents an annual growth of 41.4% in relation to the 725,882 in the same period of 2021, it still shows a lag of 3.6%. in relation to the 1 million 064,557 travelers from the same episode in 2019, before the pandemic.

Similarly, it reports an increase of 25.5% in relation to the 817, 791 people who moved throughout the year 2021.
