MIAMI, United States. — Ailex Marcano Fabelo is one of the mothers who has symbolized the resistance of Cubans against the repression suffered by the protesters on July 11, 2021 (J11).
His son, Ángel Jesús Véliz Marcano, was sentenced to six years in prison for his participation in the 11J protests in Camagüey.
In an interview given to CubaNetthe mother of the political prisoner recounts the ordeal that both she and her son have suffered over the last year.
Marcano Fabelo says that a week after the 11J demonstrations, Ángel Jesús was arrested and charged with the alleged crimes of public disorder and attack. Later, he was transferred to the maximum security prison of Kilo 8.
Since her son was imprisoned, Ailex Marcano has denounced before several instances the situation of political prisoners on the Island, as well as the appalling conditions that they must face in its penitentiary centers.
At the end of April, Marcano traveled to the United Nations headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. There he requested greater international pressure on the Cuban regime for the release of the 11J prisoners.
On August 1, she and several relatives of political prisoners protested in front of the Havana Cathedral demanding the release of their loved ones.
In addition to denouncing the situation of prisoners in Cuba, Ailex Marcano has blamed the ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel for it.
