Aida de Maduro clarifies that 50% of annual income from copper extraction does not solve the problem of the CSS

The National Dialogue for the Social Security Fund continues in recess, due to the fact that the International Labor Organization (ILO) has not sent the report, which will allow having a more precise tool to make decisions in order to strengthen the programs Of the entity.

Aida de Maduro, president of the CSS board of directors, stated that “we cannot expect that magic will be done in this study that the ILO is going to provide us, because in reality it is going to reinforce, say with the numbers, what are the the possibilities that the CSS has. Those same figures, financial statements and contributions are what the CSS actuaries have been studying, such as the Actuarial Technical Board, which oversees the IVM program”.

He also referred to the contribution of 50% of the minimum annual income from copper extraction, an announcement made a few weeks ago by President Laurentino Cortizo.

“The Social Security Fund receives contributions of one billion dollars for the IVM issue, but it has to pay close to two billion a year in pensions, and the truth is that 175 million are not the ones that will make a difference, it is positive and it is a capital that is going to be required; if parametric measures are not going to be used, we are going to have to look for other sources of income. This is positive, but it is not a solution to the IVM program, it is a step on the right path” he explained.
