Mexico City International Airport (AICM) had the highest volume of traffic in Latin America and the Caribbean, registering 48 million 415 thousand 693 passengers, approximately 26 percent of the country’s total volume. The recent report from the Airports Council International (ACI) indicates that this terminal also ranked first in operations with 363 thousand 450 national and international takeoffs and landings. Three of the five Mexican airports listed among the top 20 in the region (Monterrey, Guadalajara and AICM) showed a drop in the volume of cargo transported, which is explained by the Mexican government’s decision to move cargo flights to Felipe Ángeles International Airport, which began operations in 2022. “ACI indicates that travel demand in Latin America and the Caribbean is strong. The main countries in the region are already operating above 2019 levels; for example, Brazil and Mexico, respectively the two countries with the highest volume of traffic in the region, register almost 200 million passengers. In 2023, 209.2 million travelers passed through Brazilian airports and 185.8 million through Mexican airports, although the latter have a greater volume of international passengers (58.4 million) than Brazilian ones (21.9 million).
