The acting governor of Santa Cruz, Mario Aguilera, received the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China, Wang Huijun, in his office. During the meeting, various cooperation issues were addressed in key areas such as infrastructure, energy and culture, within the framework of the 40 years of diplomatic relations between China and Bolivia, which began in 1985.

Aguilera highlighted the relevance of China as a trade partner for Bolivia and the importance of the country’s participation in the Chinese Belt and Road initiative, an ambitious cooperation and connectivity project that seeks to strengthen the development of projects in infrastructure, technology, and energy worldwide.

During the meeting, the importance of the regional integration initiatives that the Santa Cruz Government promotes was highlighted, through corridors that promote trade, investment, agriculture and logistics throughout the country.

The departmental authority also detailed the ongoing projects related to renewable energy, including the implementation of wind farms and the strengthening of hydroelectric plants to ensure the provision of electrical energy to both the population and the industrial sector.

For her part, Consul General Wang Huijun expressed the interest of the People’s Republic of China in actively participating in the next edition of Expocruz 2025, the most important multi-sector fair in the country. In addition, he reaffirmed the Chinese commitment to intensify commercial and cultural relations with both Bolivia and the department of Santa Cruz.

Likewise, it is worth noting that both parties expressed their intention to reactivate the ‘Twinning between the department of Santa Cruz and the province of Sichuan’, a link that seeks to promote constant coordination and strengthen cultural and commercial ties between these subnational regions.

This meeting marks a new chapter in relations between Santa Cruz and the People’s Republic of China, opening the door to opportunities for mutual development and greater cooperation in strategic sectors.
