Former Argentine striker Sergio Agüero, who retired in December 2021 due to heart problems as an FC Barcelona player, met this Monday with Claudio Tapia, president of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), and announced that he will go to the Qatar 2022 World Cup along with the albiceleste team to “decontract” his former teammates.
“I’m going to go to the World Cup, but I’ll see in what role. I had a meeting with ‘Chiqui’ Tapia today, it was a nice talk. He always behaved very well with us. He asked me for the meeting and I went,” Agüero said in dialogue with the TyC Sports channel.
“My presence will be to relax (the squad), so that they are not nervous,” said the former striker, who announced that it is very likely that he will be in the draw for the World Cup that will take place on April 1 in Doha, capital of Qatar.
Tapia also referred to the meeting through his social networks and said that they discussed “a bit of soccer and the Argentine team.”
“Thank you for everything you gave us, and for always maintaining joy, despite the blows of life. Did you pack the suitcase?” The AFA president wrote on his Twitter social network account.
