AGU asks Gilmar to reconsider decision on impeachment of ministers

“Let's not give up democracy,” says Messiah after a revoked visa

The Attorney General’s Office (AGU) asked minister Gilmar Mendes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), this Wednesday (3), to reconsider the decision that understood that only the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) can file impeachment requests for members of the Court.AGU asks Gilmar to reconsider decision on impeachment of ministers

In the demonstration, the Union’s attorney general, Jorge Messias, maintains that the possibility of opening impeachment proceedings by the Senate is part of a “balanced relationship” between the powers.

“The allegations must be accepted in part, as an imposition of the system of institutional guarantees established in the Federal Constitution in favor of the independence of the Judiciary, an architecture that is not intended to hide privileges, but to enable the adequate protection of fundamental rights and the full realization of the democratic principle”, said the AGU.

Gilmar Mendes’ decision was taken based on an action filed by the Solidariedade party and the Association of Brazilian Magistrates (AMB).

After the decision, the president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre, criticized the decision and said that the STF is trying to “usurp” the House’s powers.
