The Rural Agrarian Productive Development Program (Agro Rural), an entity attached to the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), distributed a total of 127 tons of guano from the islands in the Huancavelica and Huánuco regions.
Of this total, a batch of 97 tons arrived in the Huancavelica region and was destined for 118 families producing starchy corn, avocado, barley, wheat, native potatoes, broad beans, quinoa, barley and wheat from the districts of Santiago de Chocorvos and Muchicc. (province of Huaytará), Secclla, Santo Tomás de Pata, Julcamarca and Antaparco (province of Angaraes).
The 1,940 bags of the natural input will boost the productivity and quality of a total of 70 hectares of the aforementioned crops, which are planted and harvested between 1,800 meters above sea level and 3,800 meters above sea level.
“This fertilizer, which is ours, has important properties and is of great benefit to the various crops of our small and medium-sized agricultural producers. Furthermore, it has become an alternative to the rising cost of chemical fertilizers such as urea”, commented the spokesman for Agro Rural in Huancavelica.
For its part, the Huánuco region received a shipment of 600 bags of guano from the islands (corresponding to 30 tons), which were distributed to 29 producer families in the districts of San Rafael (Ambo), Margos, Cayrán, Santa María del Valle and Churubamba (province of Huánuco) and that will be used for the fertilization of potato and starchy corn crops.
“Guano from the islands is marketed only by Agro Rural, with the guarantee and proven originality, at a social price. The shipment will help to empower about 30 hectares”, said representatives of the entity in Huánuco.
With guano from the islands, Agro Rural seeks to give small and medium-sized agricultural producers access to markets with greater added value, in order to improve the local economy and raise the quality of life of the population.
