Agricultural exports are one of the economic activities in the country that generate massive employment and maintain the growth rate despite critical situations such as the COVID-19 pandemic and on this occasion the Association of Exporters (Adex) announced that will look for the resume growth above 20%.

As a reference, in 2011 and 2014, the growth rates of Peruvian agricultural exports were 29% and 23% compared to previous years. However, the situation did not repeat itself in the following years.

“In the following years they experienced a slowdown in their growth, in 2015, 2%; 2016, 7%; 2017, 9%; 2018, 14%; 2019, 10%; 2020, 6% and in 2021, 18%,” the union specified in a statement.

According to a report from the Center for Research on Global Economy and Business (CIEN-ADEX), in 2021 Peru was the world’s leading exporter of blueberries, quinoa, and grapes. In addition, the second of canned asparagus and fresh asparagus; the third of canned olives, avocados, dried paprika and canned artichoke, and the fourth of kion.

“The sector got ahead thanks to having clear policies such as the Agrarian Promotion Law (Law No. 27360) which encouraged private investment; and the Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), with which the supply of food accessed more markets. It was a joint effort and it had the support of the government”, commented Pérez.
