Agriculture will start Expo Mango 2022

This Wednesday starts the Fair Expo Mango 2022 in Baní, Peravia province, an activity for which the department of agricultureLimber Cruz, predicts a significant growth in the national production of fruit destined for export, higher than last year, which was 20,800 tons.

Cruz said that during 2021, 52,500 tons of mango of the varieties were produced. kit, mingolo, banilejos and others, of which 40% was exported. For this season, it is expected that this crop, with a presence in the US and European markets, will generate close to 40 million dollars for the country.

This Monday, the head of the agricultural portfolio offered the details of Expo Mango 2022, a tradition that has been going on since 2005 in BaniPeravia province, in order to attract producers, marketers, consumers and academics from all over the country and abroad.

As part of the agricultural strategies implemented, Agriculture will carry out the fair in the Plazoleta Sergio Joaquín Incháustegui from June 15 to 19 and the provinces will participate Barahona, Bahoruco, Azua, Pedernales, El Seibo and Peravia.

In addition, it will have representatives from the United States, England and other countries, who will exhibit what they produce, as well as their experiences in growing and marketing the fruit.

More than 300 varieties will be presented and this time they will have gastronomic activities, where the star product will be the mango.

National Production

According to a note from Department of agriculture, the country currently has 1,800 mango producers and 704 certified to export to the United States, of which 507 are from Peravia and 71 from Azua. In addition, the local market has 19 packing houses for export, four of them with hydrothermal treatment.

The distribution of mango varieties exported to the US in 2021 was as follows: mingolo (90%), banilejo (6%), others: (4%).

In turn, the main destinations for Dominican mango exports are: Europe (62%), the United States (32%), Canada (5%), the Caribbean Islands and others (1%).

In the country there are planted more than 130 thousand tasks of mango in farms organized to cover the demand for national consumption and export.

The minister offered the statements during a press conference held in Agriculture. Also participating were the vice ministers of Production and Marketing of the entity, Eulalio Ramírez; Extension and Training, Darío Vargas; and Rafael Ortiz Quezada, from Scientific and Technological Affairs.

Likewise, Rafael Leger, president of the Mango Cluster, and Salomón Rodríguez, of the Hydrothermal Plant Council.

Likewise, Ana María Barceló, director of the National Council for Agricultural and Forestry Research (Coniaf); Rafael Soto, Regional Minister of Agriculture in Baní, among other agricultural authorities.
