The Ministry of Agriculture had to fix the new price of the raw material of Herb mate. The new value is $70.08 per kilo, with an increase of 49.46% compared to the previous price.
The value of the kilo Herb canchada and placed in drying room amounted to $266,304 per kilo, and it is expected that these increases will affect the final price of the product by 2023.
The price set by the Ministry of Agriculture balanced the positions of production and industry, which offered prices of $84.96 and $55.33 per kilo of green leaf Herb, respectively. In turn, the province of Corrientes suggested, in agreement with the dryers and cooperatives, that the price be $70.75.
This price was celebrated by the governor of the province of Misiones, Oscar Herrera Ahuad, who in turn pointed out that the new amounts will be “a good basis for future prices.”
Ahuad highlighted the joint work of the province with the Secretary of Agriculture, Juan José Bahillo, and the National Institute of Herb Mate (INYM). “Before the national authorities we show the reality and the instance of the yerba mate sector for the province.”
Law 25,564, which regulates the operation of the INYMestablishes that the minimum prices per kilogram of green leaf of yerba mate and the kilogram of plant canchada must be agreed twice a year by unanimous agreement of the Board of Directors.
What happens if there is no agreement between producers and industry?
If there is a case like the current one, where the producers and the industry cannot set a price per kilo of raw material, the Ministry of Agriculture should be the one that defines a value.
Since the regulatory body was created, the yerba mate activity agreed on a price 14 times and in 27 it was defined by the Nation.
