Agriculture: Four technological trends that have been impacting the sector

The it is undergoing a process of transformation and the producers that adopt technologies will have advantages in the market.

In this sense, technology has proven to be a great ally for the sector, allowing not only to increase productivity, but also to improve efficiency, among other benefits.

  • Tools to extract available information: Big data is a system for storing and analyzing a large amount of data. In agriculture, it has been gaining ground, due to its process of analysis and interpretation of the data obtained in a campaign. In addition, it can generate knowledge that will help in the daily work of the farmer.
  • Remote monitoring: Rural areas have a great challenge to achieve connectivity. However, agrotech have managed to overcome this barrier. For example, it is normal to find applications that allow remote control of processes involved in the growing period, which can be managed from a mobile device without the need to be connected to the internet.
  • Satellite images for key moments: The use of satellite images allows obtaining information on the physical phenomena that occur on the earth’s surface and that directly affect production. The transformation of satellite images to certain indices facilitates the work of specialists for decision making. For example, the NDVI is one of the most used indices to determine the KC values (crop coefficients) adjusted to each irrigation sector, and thus more efficiently estimate the water requirements of crops.
  • Most frequent use of artificial intelligence: The development of technological tools that allow crop management is becoming more and more frequent. This improves some aspects of management, such as predicting weather conditions that influence the success of a campaign.
