In January, the agricultural sector had a growth of 5.0%, compared to the same period of 2021, as reported by the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri).
In the first month of the year, it was observed that the increase in the agricultural sector was driven by the higher production of the Agricultural subsector (+6.2%) and the Livestock subsector (+3.3%), which contributed to the recovery of the countryside and the provision of food to markets.
The growth of the agricultural subsector was basically promoted by the greater production of blueberries, which grew by 119% (greater acreage in production in La Libertad and Lambayeque); parchment coffee +109% (larger area in production and earlier harvests due to favorable weather in San Martín, in the province of Rioja) and hard yellow corn +32.4% (larger area harvested in San Martín, Piura and Ucayali).
