More than 50% of the agricultural products of greater consumption at the national level registered a price increase of approximately 2.8% on average, during September of this 2022.
This is indicated by the report: “Agricultural prices: analysis and monitoring”, published by the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development (MEPyD)in which 43 products that are part of the basic family basket were analyzed.
The products that had the greatest increase in the past month were leaf lettuce (18.4%), Persian limon (6.7%), cabbage (3.8%), sweet potato (3.7%) and green bananas (3.4%). While the items with the highest accumulated increase in nine months, from December 2021 to September 2022, were the waxed yucca (74.8%), yautia coconut (46.7%), pineapple (29.4%), green banana (28.1%) and Aji morron (26.5%).

When observing the behavior of prices by category, of foods of livestock origin, including beef and pork cutsit is presented that, of seven articles, six had an increase, being the pound of beef brisket and the pound of pork leg the ones with the highest cost, registering differences of 3.1 and 3% with respect to the previous month.

In the category of musaceae, banana and green banana presented an increase in their prices, with an inter-monthly variation of 3.4 and 0.2%, respectively. In addition to this, they show an accumulated increase of 20.8 and 28.1%, according to the ministry’s calculations.
In the line of roots and tubers, there was an average increase of 2.4%, except for potatoes, which had a decrease of 4.6%. The accumulated variations in this category ranged between 5.8 and 74.8%, indicates the analysis corresponding to September.
Decrease
Unlike meat and groceries, the different items included in the legume category exhibited declines in their prices, with an average reduction of 2.3%.
The document highlights that, of the 43 products analyzed, the creole avocado It was the food that presented the greatest decrease in its prices with 19.2%, compared to the previous month. However, it presented an accumulated increase of 15.3%.
Also, the MEPYD specifies that garlic had an average variation of -12.2%, followed by watermelon with -7.1% and the egg unit -5.1%.
Despite the increase observed in some perishablesthe document highlights that the average increase of 2.8% was the lowest since March of the current year and that in contrast to this behavior, an accumulated reduction of 1.4% was registered.
