Agricultural production grows 5.45 % in the first half of this year

In the first six months of 2025, the farmers produced 144.3 million quintals In cereals, fruits, vegetables, vegetables and other foods to meet the demand of the local market, for a growth of 5.45 % in relation to the first half of last year, when the production will reach 136.9 million quintals.

This was followed by the guineos, which reached a production of 20.8 million quintals from January to June, 2.1 million quintals more than the 18.8 million produced in the first half of last yearfor an increase of 10.92 %.

The avocados (with 11.7 million quintals in total), the bananas (17.1 million quintals), the pineapple (12.1 million quintals), the rice (8.1 million quintals), the coconut (6.8 million quintals) and the tayota (8.3 million quintals) were the items that recorded the greater increase according to the volume producedaccording to Statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture.

Small crop growth

In that sense, the production of zucchini doubled in the first semester of this yearfrom 4,205 quintals to 8,506 quintals, for an increase of 102.28 %, followed by the Pitahayaswhose harvest increased from 7,121 quintals in January-June from 2024 to 11,667 quintals in January-June from 2025, rising 63.84 %.

The sorghum (27.81 %), the radish (26.68 %) and the Guanábana (26.45 %) were three other items with greater relative growth during the first semester of this year.

Garlic production falls

Of the 62 agricultural products that Agriculture ready, The garlic was the one that recorded the lowest production as of June this year.

In the Dominican fields they were harvested 47,173 quintals of garlic less that in the first half of last year – which culminated with 88,276 quintals -, for a drop of 53.44 %, with a total of 41,103 quintals produced between January and June.

Meanwhile, the watermelons were the crop that presented the greatest decrease by volume. Production culminated at 9.3 million quintals in the first semester of this year5,395,897 quintals below 14.6 million quintals harvested in the same period last year, for a decrease of 36.83 %.

The cucumber was the third item less produced after a fall of 4.03 %, going from 340,040 quintals at 326,342 quintals.

Other items

Other products with greater consumption, such as chinola, industrial tomatoes, beans and guandules, auyamas, potatoes or yautía, among others, recorded increases that ranged between 3.91 % and 9.00 %.

All these data reflect the behavior and dynamism of agriculture in the First half of 2025a productive activity that allows the country satisfy up to 90 % of food demand of the Dominican population.
