The Agricultural Insurance Institute (ISA) and the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA) held a meeting with corn producers in the province of Los Santos, where they discussed production costs and listened to producers in this sector.
ISA general manager Ariel Espino explained that “it is essential to have this cost in order to carry out the corresponding analyses to ensure premiums in the case of corn crops.”
Espino stressed that a first draft was presented by MIDA and now it is necessary to wait for the final result of this production cost in order to apply it to the policies this year.
“Corn cultivation requires training from the agricultural aspect to post-harvest management. We are making contacts with technicians who know about corn cultivation and we are going to incorporate very valuable topics such as seed quality control, the ideal detail required by the crop,” said the ISA manager.
For his part, producer Rubén Darío Muñoz expressed his satisfaction after the approach with the ISA and indicated the need to implement technologies and training that help producers, he also mentioned the importance of carrying out soil analyses.
Ericka Díaz, Regional Director of MIDA, spoke about the coordinated work they intend to do with ISA and the Agricultural Development Bank (MIDA) for the benefit of all producers in this province. She also stressed the importance of producers registering their production on the Integrated Agricultural Management System platform.
The production of 18 thousand hectares of maize is expected, including maize harvesting and harvesting, in the province of Los Santos. Next week there will be a work session to exclusively address the issue of insurance for maize crops and the guidelines regarding insurance for this sector will be announced.
This meeting was attended by the Santana Producers Production Cooperative (COOPROSA), the Corn Producers Association, independent producers and the Pro-Corn Association.
